No fewer than 28 persons have been killed, others kidnapped and hundreds of livestock have been rustled following an attack by armed terrorists in Duma Village in Tureta LGA of Sokoto State.
Tureta LGA shared borders with Zamfara Local Government Area where a wanted notorious bandits was recently turbanned as Darlin Fulani.
The terrorists were said to have stormed Duma village as early as 8am and operated till 7pm unchallenged before fleeing into the tin air.
Narrating how the incident happened, a local who preferred anonymity, said the terrorists were all armed to the teeth with sophisticated weapons and entered the village using over 50 motorcycles with about 3 on each bike.
The source said: “When the terrorists came, they opened fire from all directions leading to panic. In that panic situation, many ran for their lives but unfortunately, over 20 persons ran into the river and died their because they cannot swim. Others die as a result of the gunshots by the dreaded terrorists”.
Continuing, the source said the bandits who are Fulanis ordered some of the able bodied young men to control hundred of the livestock they rustled to their hide outs in the forest.
He said: “As I am talking to you now, those that were asked to lead the livestock are yet to return. What we heard from them was that the terrorists are demanding that the villagers should bring petroleum in large quantity as ransom for those that were forced to control the livestock into the forest before they are released”.
Meanwhile, Governor Aminu Tambuwal on Friday led a team of security personnel and other government officials on a condolence visit to the village.
While on the condolence, Tambuwal observed the Friday juma’at prayers with the locals and special prayers was conducted for the repose of the souls of those killed by the terrorists.
Sokoto state like many others in the north west has continued to suffer attacks from terrorists. Most affected LGAs in the state include: Tureta, Sabon Birni, Goronyo, Isa, Tangaza and Tureta.
Some of these LGAs share borders with Zamfara State, which is considered as the operational base for these terrorists.
