A group under the auspices of ICON Associate has began a three day training for the Nigerian Police Force on psychological development, human rights, rights of the police as well as conflict management.
Flagging off the training in Sokoto State, The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Akali Baba, said the training which was sponsored by The Nigeria Police Trust fund (NPTF) came at the appropriate time..
IGP Baba said the goal of the training is part of the ongoing process of reforming the Nigeria Police Force in ensuring good service delivery through enhanced capacity building, respect for rule of law and human right in the face of current prevailing security challenges in the country.
Represented by the Assistant Inspector General (AIG), Zone 10, Bello Dalijan, the IGP said: “The psychological development and conflict management aspect is very key in improving the positive mindset of our police men in contact with the members of the public”.
“This will create an avenue for our officers to exhibit high sense of tolerance and professionalism in decision making while engaging with the public and to effectively nip in the bud the civil unrest and other disruptive tendencies which borders on misconduct and other social vices”.
The police boss tasked the participating officers from Kebbi, Zamfara and Sokoto States to endeavor to pass the training across to other officers and put into practice the lessons learnt from the workshop.
He further assured Nigerians of the continued commitment of the Nigerian Police Force in enhancing peace and providing security for all.
On his part, the Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Police Command, CP Muhammed Usiani Gumel appealed to participating personnel to concentrate in the workshop, adding that the job of ensuring that Nigeria is secured and safe for all is a task that must be achieved against all odds.
Speaking earlier, the convener and MD of ICON Associate, Mrs Christie Dagogo George said the training became necessary in view of the security challenges in the country and its adverse effects on the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies.
Mrs Dagogo stressed that the three day training will improved the police’s psychological stability, aid their conflict management prowess and also help to re-undertand the rights of citizens as stipulated in chapter four and section 33 of the 1999 constitution.
“Finally, the training will technically deploy demonstration of technology for surveillance monitoring; it will observe and understand the classes of explosives and detonation of same”, she said.
