BUA Cement Plc has donated wet season agricultural inputs worth over N100 million to 211 resettled farmers from its host communities in Sokoto State as part of efforts to restore livelihoods, enhance food security and promote sustainable development.
The donation, made under the company’s Resettlement and Sustainable Livelihood Restoration Programme, underscores BUA Cement’s commitment to improving the welfare of communities affected by its quarry operations through sustained Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
Speaking during the distribution, the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of BUA Cement Plc, Engr. Yusuf Binji, reaffirmed the company’s resolve to restore quality livelihoods to all persons displaced and resettled due to its operations.
Represented by the Assistant Director, Corporate Services, Alhaji Sada Suleiman, Binji said the programme was designed to cushion the effects of displacement, boost agricultural productivity and ensure beneficiaries remain economically self-reliant.
He noted that beyond providing relief, the initiative seeks to empower resettled communities to rebuild their lives through sustainable farming.
Earlier, the company’s Director of Health, Community, Safety and Environment, Engr. Ali Gumel, urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the farm inputs to achieve self-sufficiency in food production.
Gumel explained that to ensure maximum impact, BUA partnered the Sokoto State Agricultural Development Programme (SADP) to train all beneficiaries on the effective application of the inputs and modern farming techniques.
Corroborating this, the Programme Manager of SADP, Alhaji Abubakar Danmaliki, assured beneficiaries that the agency would provide continuous extension services and technical support throughout the farming season to ensure optimal yields.
Providing a breakdown of the items distributed, BUA Cement’s Social Performance Specialist, Alhaji Rabiu Maska, said the package comprised 422 bags of NPK fertiliser, 211 bags of urea, 211 containers of liquid fertiliser, hundreds of herbicides, insecticides and pesticides, as well as 50kg bags of improved seeds of paddy rice, maize, cowpea, sorghum, groundnut and moringa, among other inputs.
Expressing appreciation, the beneficiaries described BUA Cement as a dependable partner that has consistently supported their communities through agricultural empowerment, scholarships for their children, the donation of cement for community projects and several other intervention programmes aimed at improving their standard of living.
