The National President of Hope Wadell Old Student Association (HWOSA), Barr. Efio-Ita Ephraim has said that the mini marathon embarked upon by the association has been enlisted into the state tourism calendar.
Ephraim disclosed this on Sunday while flagging off the 5 kilometer Marathon race at the Hope Wadell premises.
According to him, We planted this seed this day and we are looking forward to this seed growing into a giant tree by way of this mini marathon being captured into the international calender of Athletic Federation of Nigeria (AFN).
“The fact that you are registered today as the pioneer members who midwife the 5km marathon should give you joy because the record are going to be kept even when you are no more alive”
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee and the National Social Secretary of HWOSA, Prince Esema Esema told the participants that the major aim of the marathon is to keep fit and secondly is to derived fun during the race and thirdly to support the Hope Wadell Education Endowment fund.
“Do not try to impress your fellow participant, do as you can run, don’t want to win, but if you win, we will applaud you, the important thing is fun and fitness”
At the end of the five kilometer marathon race took participants crossing from Hope Wadell main gate to Diamond, Hill axis to Stadium route and back to the school premises .
Okon Cyril emerged champion with a time of 25.3 minutes with tag no 33. Other winners include Henry Ekpeyong who finished with 28 minutes and Philip Bassey with a time of 34.9 minutes
