Tegbe and Enikanolaiye
Senate on Wednesday confirmed Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe and Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as ministers following their screening during plenary at the Committee of the Whole.
President Bola Tinubu had forwarded their names to the Red Chamber a day earlier, requesting speedy confirmation in line with Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution as amended.
During the exercise, Tegbe told lawmakers that Nigeria’s electricity crisis can only be solved through bold and transparent reforms, insisting that there are no instant solutions to the sector’s challenges.
“We will not do things the way we used to do before. I will not promise what I cannot deliver,” Tegbe stated while outlining his vision for the power sector.
The former Director-General of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, appointed in 2025, described electricity supply as critical to restoring confidence in the country’s economy and governance.
He said his focus would include improving power distribution, closing the metering gap, boosting transparency, and encouraging state governments to generate electricity independently.
“We must close the metering gap and ensure Nigerians can track performance through a transparent public dashboard,” he said, adding, “We will come with clear milestones. If results are not visible in three months, they won’t be in six.”
