The North East Development Commission (NEDC) says the commission as part of its health intervention would upgrade the Borno Eyes and Dental Hospitals in terms of the quality of facilities, services as well as rehabilitate all building structures, in order to meet international standard.
The Managing Director, NEDC, Alhaji Goni Mohammed Alkali stated when he was conducted round the two hospitals by the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Borno Eye Hospital, Dr. Falmata Kyari, and the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Dental Hospital, Dr. Bukar Gana, during assessment and inspection tour on Friday.
Fielding questions from, Journalists after the inspection and assessment tours , the CEO of NEDC said,” I am at the hospitals with my team to inspect the hospital. Since 1980, the hospitals have been an edifice for visitation as a tourist attraction being the largest building by then. I come to see for myself and assess the level of repairs, needs and other requirements needed to make the two hospitals very functional and standard to International level.
“Although, the facilities have been functional but we will try to take note of the hospitals’ needs to enable us know the actual areas and what we are actually going to intervene on.
“We normally have as part of our mandate interventions in health and medical areas towards improving the livelihoods and living condition of the people of the north east.
‘ Apart from the renovation of the buildings, we are also going to replace all the 20-30 years obsolete and grounded equipment with new and ultra modern and sophisticated equipment and machines.
He further explained that the NEDC would be organizing workshop in order to train medical staff on international best practices.
The Managing Director was accompanied by the Commission executive members, management team including the NEDC Head of Media, Malam Abba Musa and others.
