Determined to rid Benue state of the activities of cyber criminals, the Cybercrime and Narcotics Department of Benue State Police Command has arrested five suspects in connection with a case of impersonation and obtaining under false pretense.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Benue State Command, Sewuese Catherine Anene, said the operatives conducted a thorough investigation following an intelligence gathered about cyber criminals and subsequently apprehended the suspects.
Anene identified the suspects as Kwaghaondo John, 21yrs, Sunday Dominic, 20yrs, Uaan Aondowase Michael, 21yrs, Isaac Akpagher, 18yrs and Suleiman Lawal , 20yrs.
The suspects she emphasized have been charged to court for prosecution.
According to her, the exhibits recovered from them include: three iphones, one small tecno phone and two other smartphones.
Further investigations, according to the statement revealed that the suspects have previously been engaged in impersonating people and using their identities to defraud unsuspecting persons of their belongings.
The PPRO also quoted the Benue State Police Commissioner, CP Steve Yabanet as calling on the good people of Benue state to be wary of activities of cyber criminals.
The Commissioner assured residents of his commitment to fighting crime but he however warned individuals and groups involved in all sorts of cybercrime in Benue state to desist from such acts or face the consequences of their action.
