President Bola Tinubu
Federal Government has raised concerns over what it described as the persistent misuse of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s official title by some organisations and media platforms, calling for greater accuracy in official references to the Nigerian leader.
The warning was issued on Friday in Abuja by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, through a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yomi Odunuga.
Akume said the clarification became necessary after an error was spotted in the way the president’s name and title were presented in a publication by a national newspaper on Wednesday, May 7, 2026.
“For the record, the correct and official appellation is His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Akume stated.
The SGF urged journalists, media organisations and members of the public to always verify official titles before publishing reports, noting that such mistakes are avoidable and could cause unnecessary embarrassment.
He stressed the importance of accuracy in official communication, especially in print and online publications involving the presidency and other government institutions.
Akume further advised that all necessary confirmations regarding official titles and designations could be obtained through the office’s verified communication channels on Facebook, Instagram and X, as well as through official email correspondence.
