Borno State Government, through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, has celebrated this year’s Eid el-Kabir with 200 street children rescued from drug abuse, criminal activities, and various forms of vulnerability.
The event, which took place at the Bulunkutu Rehabilitation Centre in Maiduguri, was filled with joy, music, traditional dances, games, and a shared festive meal.
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Zuwaira Gambo, personally joined the children in the celebration, creating an atmosphere of love, belonging, and renewed hope.

The children, who included unaccompanied minors, separated children, Persons Living With Disabilities (PLWD), and survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), were visibly happy and deeply appreciative of the support they have received from the government.
Speaking during the event, Hon. Gambo emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to vulnerable children across the state.
She said: “These children are not forgotten—they deserve a chance at a better life. Today is about mercy, reflection, and new beginnings. Under the compassionate and visionary leadership of His Excellency, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, we remain committed to rescuing, rehabilitating, and reintegrating every vulnerable child in Borno State.”
Many of the children shared personal testimonies on how their lives had transformed positively since being taken off the streets and enrolled in the Ministry’s rehabilitation programs.

The Bulunkutu Centre, in particular, has become a safe haven where they receive psychosocial support, education, and life skills to help them reintegrate into society as responsible and empowered individuals.
This celebration is more than a festive gathering it is a symbol of the Borno State Government’s continued commitment to the welfare of its most vulnerable citizens. Under the dynamic leadership of His Excellency, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, and with the dedication of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, the government is steadily building a future where no child is left behind.
As the children danced, laughed, and shared a meal with Hon. Gambo, one message rang clear: There is hope. There is love. And there is a government that cares.
