Police make significant recovery in Nasarawa: AK-47 Rifle and Stolen Motorcycle Found Abandoned After Suspect Flees
By DANJUMA JOSEPH, Lafia –
In a swift operation, police officers attached to the Giza Division in Nasarawa State’s Keana Local Government Area recovered an AK-47 rifle, two magazines, and 45 rounds of live ammunition, along with a suspected stolen motorcycle.
The suspect, however, escaped into a nearby bush after abandoning the motorcycle.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Nasarawa State Command, SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed this in a statement issued to NATIONAL ACCORD on Sunday in Lafia.
SP Nansel said the recovery followed a tip-off about a suspected criminal transporting arms and ammunition, prompting Commissioner of Police Shetima Jauro Mohammed to order a manhunt to apprehend the suspect.
“In compliance with these directives, police operatives from Giza Division mounted a strategic stop-and-search operation along the Giza-Kadarko Road.
“During the operation, a suspicious individual riding an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle was intercepted. However, upon being flagged down for questioning, the suspect abandoned the motorcycle and fled into a nearby bush, evading immediate arrest” the police spokesperson stated.
“This recovery strongly suggests a connection to criminal activity, and efforts are currently underway to apprehend the fleeing suspect and trace the origin and intended use of the recovered firearm and ammunition.
“The Nasarawa State Police Command remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents.
“We urge members of the public to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or via our emergency contact line”, he said.
