The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is set to replace members who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) following Governor Umo Eno’s exit from the party.
Governor Eno’s defection has sparked controversy, with some key stakeholders opposing his decision and vowing to remain in the PDP.
The governor has asked his cabinet members to join him in defecting, and some commissioners have obliged.
Mr. Ini Ememobong, Commissioner for Special Duties, has resigned his position, further deepening the party’s internal divisions.
In resigning, Ememobong cited “personal conviction,” as his reason for his inability to join him in moving to the APC while thanking the governor for the opportunity given to him to serve the state.
In replacing the defected member, a ward chairman in Eket local government area, Essien Uwem Akpan has been recommended for the replacement of Ndifreke Akpan as the chapter assistant secretary of the PDP in Eket Local Government Area.
