Akwa-Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno has formerly announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Governor Eno made this known during a press conference on Friday in Uyo, the Akwa-Ibom State’s capital.
“Having completed the rounds of my consultations as your servant, I have decided to progressively move to the All Progressives Congress,” Eno declared.
He emphasised that he is not “joining the APC from a position of weakness, but from a position of strength.”
He cited his commitment to supporting President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms as a key reason for the switch.
Eno’s move follows a similar defection by Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori six weeks ago, marking a growing trend in the South-South region.
Speculation about Eno’s intentions surfaced in April when he publicly endorsed Tinubu’s re-election during the flag-off of a 65-kilometer, three-lane dual carriageway project in Nsit-Antai Local Government Area.
Two weeks prior to his announcement, Eno instructed his commissioners and appointees to join him in the APC or resign, signaling a firm shift. This defection strengthens the APC’s foothold in the region, promising enhanced collaboration for Akwa Ibom’s development.
