President Bola Tinubu addressing a joint session at the National Assembly on Democracy Day
President Bola Tinubu has conferred posthumous national honours on notable figures, including the winner of the June 12, 1993 Presidential election, Moshood Abiola and the Chairman of the National Electoral Commission (NEC), Prof. Humphrey Nwosu, in recognition of their contributions to Nigeria’s democratic journey.

Honouring the brave
Tinubu emphasized the importance of acknowledging those who have made sacrifices for Nigeria’s democracy.
“As we mark a twenty-sixth year of unbroken democracy, it is right to honour those who have made sacrifices in the past, braving all the odds and the guns to ensure we have a regime of democracy in our country,” he said.
Notable Recipients
The President specifically conferred the posthumous national honour of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR) on Kudirat Abiola, a heroine of the June 12 struggle.
