U.S President, Donald Trump
US President Donald Trump is at the center of a heated debate after recent American airstrikes on Iran, with the President insisting that the strikes “completely and fully obliterated” Iran’s nuclear program.
This claim starkly contrasts with a leaked preliminary intelligence assessment suggesting the assault inflicted only a marginal setback on Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
The intelligence assessment estimated that Iran’s nuclear program was delayed by only a few months, which Trump vehemently disputes.
“This was a devastating attack, and it knocked them for a loop,” Trump said, as his administration deployed top officials to defend his claims.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth described the leaked assessment as “preliminary” and “low confidence”, while Secretary of State Marco Rubio labeled the officials who disclosed the findings “professional stabbers”.
The White House has pointed to a statement from the Israel Atomic Energy Commission, which suggests Iran faced a setback of “many years”.
Trump took to social media to reiterate his stance, stating, “ONE OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL MILITARY STRIKES IN HISTORY… THE NUCLEAR SITES IN IRAN ARE COMPLETELY DESTROYED!”
The discrepancy between Trump’s claims and the intelligence assessment has sparked intense debate, with some officials questioning the accuracy of the leaked report. The full impact of the strikes is still under review, and further updates are expected from US Central Command.
Analysts warn that if key infrastructure and uranium stockpiles survived, Iran’s nuclear capabilities may rebound faster than expected.
