Senate has confirmed the nomination of Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi as Chairman and Dr. Charles Akinola as Managing Director of the South-West Development Commission (SWDC) Board, along with 16 other nominees as board members.
The confirmation followed the adoption of the report of the Senate Committee on SWDC at plenary.
Presenting the report, Senator Yunus Akintunde stated that the committee had thoroughly vetted the nominees and was satisfied with their academic qualifications, work experiences, competencies, and integrity.
According to Akintunde, “The committee had established in fact and in law that the nominees had satisfied the requisite requirements and affirmed to be qualified fit and proper persons suitable for appointments to the board of SWDC.”
The confirmed board members include Bolaji Ariyo (Lagos), Joseph Olugbenga (Ekiti), Scholastica Omoworare (Osun), Olumuyiwa Olabimtan (Ogun), Adewinle Martins (Ondo), and Ibrahim Olaifa (Oyo), among others.
Additionally, several executive directors were confirmed, including Olugbenga Olufehinti (Ondo) for Projects, Tele Ogunjobi (Ogun) for Finance, Funmilayo Tejuosho (Lagos) for Corporate Services, Fatai Ibikunle (Oyo) for Commercial and Environmental Development, and Lateef Ajijola (Ekiti) for Social and Human Capital Development.
Akintunde noted that there were no adverse security reports or petitions against the nominees, adding that the committee recommends their confirmation. With this confirmation, the nominees are expected to bring their expertise and experience to bear in driving development in the South-West region.
