National Orientation Agency (NOA) Borno State Directorate has organized a one-day orientation conference to promote national cohesion, unity, and development.
The conference, titled ” _Nationwide Peace Campaign: Pathway to National Cohesion, Development, and Unity Conference to Combat Insurgency, Banditry, Terrorism, Extremism, Youths’ Restiveness, and Herders/Farmers Conflict,”_ was held at the NOA State Directorate Headquarters in Maiduguri.
Borno State Director, Mr. Michael Daniel Bdliya, emphasized the importance of unity, stability, and national cohesion for the nation’s development and growth.
“Unity, stability, and national cohesion prevail in a just, transparent, fair, and responsible society and environment,” he said .
Participants at the conference suggested several ways to promote peace and unity, including: parental guidance and counseling on peace and unity; prompt and regular improvement in security measures, intelligence, and communication strategies; collaboration and partnership between groups, people, and communities.
Other suggestions include: Capacity building, conflict resolution, and dialogue; community engagement, sensitization, advocacy, and mobilization; citizenship and respect for human rights and child rights; gender empowerment and climate change resilience.
Participants urged youths to shun hooliganism, disassociate from banditry, and improve on capacity building, conflict resolution, and community engagement.
“Youths should shun drugs abuse, vandalism, hooliganism, restiveness, and obey law enforcement agents,” they said.
The conference called on both public and private stakeholders to support, engage, contribute, mobilize, participate, sensitize, and advocate for peace, unity, stability, love, and affection, reconciliation, forgiveness, and understanding among each other and their communities
