By EZEKIEL OBI, Abuja-
Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has sparked controversy by stating that former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration outperformed President Bola Tinubu’s government despite not achieving all its goals.
Amaechi stated this on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday , highlighting areas where Buhari’s government excelled.
*Buhari’s Achievements*
Amaechi praised Buhari’s focus on security and institutional independence, saying, “In terms of security, Buhari focused on it. In transportation, I’m open to a new challenge. Again, the independence of INEC was higher in Buhari’s government than now.”
He added that the current administration has compromised the electoral body’s independence, stating, “Now, they can’t even register a party because government officials are telling them not to.”

*Criticism of Tinubu’s Govt*
Amaechi criticized the Tinubu administration for mishandling the economy, saying, “The current government has completely buried the economy.
“Any economy that does not put money in the pockets of individuals in Nigeria is not an economic policy.”
He questioned where the savings from removing fuel subsidies and floating the naira are being directed, emphasizing that the economy’s collapse has reduced the population to two classes: the elite and the poor.
The former Rivers State governor defended his record in office, stating, “I never stole anything in politics. I don’t drive a Rolls-Royce. I’m not in opposition because Tinubu didn’t give me an appointment. I’m not interested in any appointment.”
He challenged anyone to come forward with evidence of corruption during his tenure.
*Leadership ambition*
Amaechi expressed confidence in his ability to lead Nigeria, saying, “Of course, can I lead Nigeria? Yes. I have led as a Speaker, and I was one of the best Speakers in this country.”
He promised to publish his health details, age, birth certificate, and school certificate to reassure Nigerians of his fitness to lead.
*Opposition Coalition*
Amaechi also discussed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the All Democratic Alliance (ADA) coalition, stating that the goal is to return power to the people and create a better Nigeria.
He emphasized the need for reform, saying, “We need to remove politicians — including myself, if necessary. What Nigeria needs is a people’s government.”
