A kidnapper, David Abiodun, has pleaded guilty to abducting a 17-year-old student of the University of Ibadan (UI), Divine Ayeni.
Abiodun pleaded guilty before a Federal High Court in Ibadan to a two-count charge bordering on kidnapping instituted against him by the Department of State Services (DSS).
The defendant’s guilty plea was entered on Monday, and Justice Nkeonye Maha adjourned the suit until September 23 for presentation of facts and judgment.
Maha also ordered the defendant to be remanded in Agodi Correctional Centre.
According to the DSS, Abiodun committed the crime between May 19 and June 5, 2024, in Ibadan, by abducting the victim and depriving her of liberty.
The offences contravened the Provisions of Sections 24A and 30A of the Terrorism and Prohibition and Prevention Act 2022.
The court will deliver judgment on September 23, after hearing the presentation of facts.
Abiodun’s guilty plea marks a significant development in the case, and the court is expected to deliver a verdict soon.
