Obidient Movement has firmly dismissed rumors of a rift between Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, and the party’s acting National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, calling such claims baseless and a distraction from their shared goals.
In a statement released on Wednesday in Abuja, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, clarified that Obi remains a steadfast member of the Labour Party under Usman’s leadership.

“His Excellency, Peter Obi, has repeatedly affirmed his loyalty to the Labour Party led by Senator Nenadi Usman, especially following the Supreme Court’s ruling that upheld her leadership,” Tanko said.
“The notion that Obi has betrayed Senator Usman is completely unfounded and a product of opposition propaganda.”
The rumors surfaced after Obi attended the campaign flag-off for the Labour Party’s gubernatorial candidate in Anambra, Dr. George Moghalu, last weekend.
Tanko emphasized that this action reflected Obi’s commitment to supporting all Labour Party candidates. “Peter Obi is a man of integrity who honors his commitments,” Tanko stated.
“His presence at Dr. Moghalu’s campaign launch demonstrates his unwavering support for the party’s candidates and vision.”
Tanko, further, noted that Senator Usman and other key stakeholders within the Obidient Movement fully endorse these efforts. “There is no discord here—only unity and focus on our collective mission,” he added.
“The false narrative being spread is a deliberate attempt to sow division and derail our progress.”
Addressing the public, Tanko urged Nigerians to ignore the speculation, describing it as “propaganda built on falsehoods aimed at stirring unnecessary controversy.”
He reaffirmed the movement’s commitment to its core objectives, stating, “Our goal is clear: to build a strong, united Labour Party and a better Nigeria.
“We will not be distracted from this mission.”
The Obidient Movement’s statement underscores a departure from divisive politics, with Tanko noting, “The voices speaking for our movement—senators, House members, state assembly members, and myself—represent a new political order focused on unity and progress.”
