U.S. Government Exchange Alumni Association (USGEAA), Borno State Chapter, has completed a transformative project aimed at promoting peace and strengthening resilience among community members in Bulabulin Ngarannam, Maiduguri.
USGEAA Borno State Coordinator, Alhaji Mustapha Shettima, in a statement on Sunday, said the project was implemented in partnership with local CSOs and funded by the U.S. Nigeria Alumni Engagement Grant 2025.
Shettima said the project brought together traditional leaders, religious figures, women, youth, and returnee IDPs.
According to him, the three-month project, which ran from May to July 2025, achieved several key outcomes, including:
– Capacity Building: 25 community stakeholders were trained in conflict dynamics, mediation, and negotiation
– Community Dialogue: Four dialogue sessions were held, tackling issues like sexual abuse, lack of school attendance, and youth unemployment
– Reintegration: Repentant insurgents were reintegrated into the community, and nighttime security was restored
He said the project has left a lasting legacy of peace, unity, and empowerment in the community.
Alhaji Shettima, emphasized that the project aimed to “rise hope, foster peace, and strengthen resilience” in the community.
