A leadership crisis is brewing in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Nasarawa State, just two weeks after appointing new executives of the party.
It would be recalled that some defectors from other parties met two Sundays ago and appointed a former Deputy Governor, Mike Abdul, as the state chairman, while Jibrin Sabo Keana as the secretary.
However, the current chairman of the party, Mr. Alaku Godwin Williams, has disputed the legitimacy of the new leadership, stating, “I am the authentic chairman of ADC in Nasarawa State.”
The chairman who spoke to journalists on Tuesday in Akwanga, pointed out that so many aspirants contested on the platform of ADC in 2023, “so how can someone come from the blues and claim the chairmanship of the party today?
Williams, who supervised all elections during the 2023 general elections in the state and also contested for governor under ADC, expressed surprise that some of the defectors, whom he had previously approached to join the party, are now claiming leadership positions.
“Sadly, most of them you saw in that meeting, I met and begged them to join ADC in the build-up to 2023 elections, they refused, so I am surprised that they are embracing the party through the window.”
Williams specifically mentioned Mike Abdul, saying, “The same Mike Abdul, that I approached severally in 2023 to come and contest for Senate under ADC and he refused, today is saying he is the coordinator or is it chairman of the party.” He said.
When reminded of Senator Patricia Kawashiki’s presence at the meeting, Williams replied, “She is my mother, but the issue of party is different from and far from it.”
Williams emphasized that he remains the ADC chairman in the state, stating, “I am one step ahead of them.” He also said that no amount of money could make him relinquish his position, affirming his commitment to leading the party.
