A tiger in a zoo
A devastating incident occurred at the Biblical Zoo in Jerusalem when a tiger escaped from its enclosure and attacked a zookeeper, resulting in the worker’s death.
The victim, identified as 36-year-old Uriel Nuri, was preparing for a behind-the-scenes tour when the tiger broke free and entered a secure area where he was working.
Investigation Underway
The zoo authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident, with the help of Israeli police, to determine how the tiger managed to escape. According to reports, the investigation is focusing on whether a door to the enclosure may have come loose, allowing the tiger to break free.
Fortunately, the visitors who were watching the tour from behind a glass window were not in danger during the incident. The zoo’s statement emphasized that the visitors were protected and safe throughout the ordeal.
Following the incident, the zoo was immediately closed and will remain shut until Sunday. The zoo’s management has expressed deep sorrow and regret over the incident, and their hearts go out to the family of the deceased.
*About the Biblical Zoo*
The Jerusalem Biblical Zoo, founded in 1928, is a popular tourist destination that features animals mentioned in the Bible, as well as endangered species from around the world. The zoo is involved in conservation efforts for ancient and endangered animals, including the critically endangered Sumatran tiger.
