The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has called on former President Goodluck Jonathan to distance himself from a planned endorsement by the Tanimu Turaki-led group ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The party described the proposed convention to ratify Jonathan’s candidature as misleading and capable of causing unnecessary political tension.
In a statement signed by National Publicity Secretary Jungudo Mohammed, the faction said no convention, meeting, or process for such an endorsement had been approved by the party’s recognised leadership.
It maintained that all PDP primary elections, including the presidential primary, had already been conducted in line with electoral laws and under the supervision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to the statement, “All such exercises across the country were peacefully conducted and properly monitored and supervised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).”
The faction further appealed to Jonathan, saying, “In view of this development, we respectfully call on former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to publicly dissociate himself from this charade in order to protect the integrity of the democratic process and preserve the credibility he earned while serving the nation.”
It also urged security agencies to investigate those behind what it described as false reports intended to create confusion in the political space. Meanwhile, the Turaki-led faction has insisted that its special convention to ratify Jonathan’s nomination will proceed as scheduled in Abuja. In a statement signed by its Interim National Working Committee, the group said it had fulfilled all legal requirements and informed relevant security agencies about the event.
It added, “We are certain that Nigeria is a country governed by law, and any attempt to use force to suppress political dissent and opposition is an aberration which must be resisted by all people of good conscience.”
