Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has suspended the licenses of two Value Jet pilots due to a safety breach at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The suspension was announced in a statement by NCAA Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu.
According to the NCAA, the pilots, Captain Oluranti Ogoyi and First Officer Ivan Oloba, breached aviation safety protocols during departure procedures from the domestic terminal on August 5, 2025.
“The pilot in question commenced departure procedures from the designated bay without adhering to the mandatory pre-departure clearance protocols,” the statement read.
The NCAA emphasized that the pilot’s actions “endangered the safety of ground personnel and other airport users, contravening established civil aviation regulations and international safety standards”.
The authority viewed the incident with “utmost seriousness” and reaffirms its commitment to safety for all stakeholders.
The suspension of the pilots’ licenses is effective immediately and will remain in place “pending the conclusion of a full investigation into the incident”.
The NCAA is conducting a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the safety breach.
