The 82 Division of the Nigerian Army has launched an inquiry into a recent confrontation between soldiers and civilians along the Nsukka-Igbo Eze South Road in Enugu State, following a widely circulated social media video.
In a statement released on Tuesday in Enugu, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the Division, Lt.-Col. Olabisi Ayeni,addressed the incident.
“The altercation took place during a standard security operation,” Ayeni explained.
“While these operations are vital for maintaining safety, we take allegations of misconduct with utmost seriousness.”
Ayeni emphasized that a detailed investigation is underway to uncover the circumstances of the incident, with findings to be shared publicly.
“Should any personnel be found culpable, they will face disciplinary measures in line with military protocols,” he added.
Reaffirming the Division’s commitment to its constitutional duties, Ayeni highlighted adherence to established Rules of Engagement and Code of Conduct.
“We are dedicated to fostering trust and accountability in our operations to strengthen ties with the community,” he noted.
“We value the public’s alertness and the media’s role in spotlighting this matter.”
