Former President Goodluck Jonathan has described the Hilltop residence of former Military President, Retired Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), as a “Mecca” for Nigerians, attributing this to Babangida’s exceptional leadership qualities.
Jonathan made these remarks on Sunday in Minna during a visit with other well-wishers to celebrate Babangida’s 84th birthday.
Jonathan lauded Babangida as a dedicated leader committed to Nigeria’s unity, stating, “Nigeria has had many leaders since independence, but Gen. Babangida stands out as one who consistently prioritizes the nation’s best interests.”
He added, “That is why his house is like a Mecca of sorts. People visit him regularly, which speaks volumes about IBB’s character.”
Highlighting Babangida’s non-sectional approach, Jonathan noted, “He never sees himself as a regional leader but as one who champions Nigeria’s unity.”
He emphasized that Babangida’s contributions to national cohesion ensure his legacy endures.
“We pray for God to grant him long life so he can continue mentoring younger generations to emulate his exemplary leadership,” Jonathan said.
The low-key birthday celebration featured prayers and symbolic gifts from well-wishers.
