National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) disclosed that the average retail price of petrol per litre surged to N1,024.99 in July 2025, up from N770.54 in July 2024.
According to the NBS Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol) Price Watch for July 2025, released in Abuja on Thursday, this reflects a significant 33.02% increase year-on-year.
The report noted, “The average retail price saw a slight decline of 1.22% from N1,037.66 in June 2025.”
State-by-state analysis revealed Jigawa as the highest-paying state at N1,107.52 per litre, followed closely by Lagos at N1,100.29 and Sokoto at N1,100.00. Meanwhile, Zamfara recorded the lowest price at N884.63, with Yobe and Kogi following at N950.60 and N986.67, respectively.
Zonal data indicated that the North-West Zone faced the steepest average price at N1,035.85, while the North-East Zone recorded the lowest at N1,017.65 per litre, the NBS stated.
