Former Senate President, David Mark
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially acknowledged the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) under former Senate President David Mark, as confirmed on INEC’s website, according to a report by Channels Television on Wednesday.
This recognition follows an internal reorganization within the ADC, positioning the party for the 2027 general elections.
Mark now serves as interim chairman, joined by other key figures, including former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary, former Edo State Governor Oserheimen Osunbor as National Legal Adviser, Ibrahim Mani as National Treasurer, and Akibu Dalhatu as National Financial Secretary, all officially listed by INEC.

On July 2, 2025, a coalition of opposition groups adopted the ADC as its political platform to challenge for the presidency and other positions in 2027.
The coalition, which includes prominent figures like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, aims to “rescue Nigeria from collapse and restore its democratic foundations,” according to Mark.
He further criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government, alleging it has “undermined democratic institutions” and pushed Nigeria toward a “civilian dictatorship” over the past two years.
“This coalition is not just about power; it’s about rebuilding Nigeria’s crumbling democracy and preventing a one-party state,” Mark stated.
Peter Obi, a key coalition member and the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, proposed a single-term presidency if elected in 2027. Other notable members include Senator Dino Melaye, former Minister Solomon Dalong, Dele Momodu, Senator Gabriel Suswam, Senator Ireti Kingibe, former Deputy Speaker Emeka Ihedioha, and retired Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar.
During the coalition’s unveiling, former ADC National Chairman Ralph Nwosu formally handed over leadership to Mark and Aregbesola, presenting them with party membership cards.
However, the ADC’s 2023 presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, sharply criticized the coalition, labeling its members as “enemies of Nigeria” intent on reversing national progress.
