ADC National Chairman, David Mark and National Secretary Rauf Aregbsola
African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly refuted claims that a court issued an injunction barring Senator David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from serving as its National Chairman and National Secretary, respectively.
In response to erroneous media reports alleging that the Federal High Court in Abuja restrained the duo from their leadership roles, the ADC released a statement on Thursday through its National Publicity Secretary, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi.
“The ADC wishes to set the record straight regarding false reports currently circulating in the media about the recent ruling of the Federal High Court, Abuja, concerning the leadership of our great party,” Abdullahi declared in Abuja.
He clarified that no court order restricted Mark and Aregbesola from their positions.
“Contrary to some misleading publications, the court did not issue any order restraining Mark and Aregbesola from functioning as the national chairman and national secretary of the ADC, respectively,” Abdullahi stated. Instead, the court rejected an ex-parte application filed by Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe.
“The ruling, delivered by Hon. Justice Emeka Nwite on Sept. 4, clearly stated the following four orders: That the Plaintiff/Applicant’s application dated and filed on Sept. 2, is refused; That the Plaintiff/Applicant is hereby directed to put the Defendants on notice; That the Defendants/Respondents are ordered to appear before this Honourable Court to show cause why the application should not be granted; That the case is adjourned to Sept. 15, 2025, for the defendants/respondents to show cause,” he explained.
Abdullahi noted that the orders were duly signed by Justice Nwite and certified by Registrar Kasope Kafayat Bola. He accused certain groups of spreading misinformation after failing to prevent the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing the ADC’s leadership changes.
“Having failed to stop INEC from acknowledging the leadership change in ADC, the political jobbers are now resorting to fake news,” Abdullahi said, adding, “These agents of destabilization will stop at nothing, including misrepresenting court rulings, in their desperate efforts to sow confusion and further undermine opposition parties.”
The ADC called on the media and public to stay cautious of false reports. “In this regard, the leadership of the ADC urges members of the press and the general public to be vigilant and be wary of fake news and inaccurate reports,” Abdullahi urged.
