Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has given firm assurances that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is fully prepared for a smooth and successful National Convention scheduled for November 15 and 16.
Speaking in Abuja on Monday after leading the inaugural meeting of the Accommodation Sub-Committee—where he serves as Chairman and also doubles as Deputy Chairman of the Convention Planning Committee—Adeleke said every aspect of the convention is being handled in line with the PDP’s core values and internal protocols.
“We believe it will be very successful,” he stated. “As we all know, the PDP believes in proper organisation, in doing things the right way, and in accordance with the rule of law. That is exactly what we are doing.”
Highlighting the party’s experience with large-scale political events, the governor added:
“We have successfully organised many conventions in the past, and this one will be even more successful. By the special grace of God, the PDP will continue to grow from strength to strength.”
Responding to whispers of internal discord within the party, Adeleke was quick to downplay concerns, insisting that any disagreements are being resolved in-house.
“It is a family affair,” he said. “We do not want anyone outside to add sugar, pepper or salt to the matter. The PDP is a family, and we know how to manage our affairs.”
On the subject of recent defections—including the exit of some high-profile figures—Adeleke described such moves as typical in any democracy and insisted they pose no threat to the PDP’s national structure or popularity.
“I’m not concerned,” he said. “Anybody, whether a governor or a minister, has the right to make their own decision. That does not change anything in the PDP. We still have strong membership and widespread support across Nigeria.”
He also addressed ongoing speculation about his own political allegiance, dismissing rumours of a potential switch to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He maintained that his attendance at APC social functions should not be misconstrued as political disloyalty.
“I’m a very civilised person. If I have friends in the APC and they invite me to a wedding or social function, I will attend. That doesn’t mean I’m joining them,” he clarified. “As we speak, I am the Deputy Chairman of our convention… and I remain a loyal member of the PDP.”
With the convention just weeks away, Adeleke reiterated the party’s commitment to unity and proper coordination, forecasting a resounding success for the upcoming gathering.
