A group of armed robbers on Monday morning attacked a bank customer near the Oyo State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, carting away an undisclosed sum of money and leaving a police officer seriously injured.
The Oyo State Police Command spokesperson, CSP Adewale Osifeso, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to journalists in Ibadan.
According to Osifeso, the victim was driving a metallic grey Nissan Primera when the assailants trailed and intercepted him around 8:00 a.m.
> “The Oyo State Police Command seeks to inform the public about a robbery that occurred on Monday, October 27, 2025, at approximately 8:00 a.m. along Secretariat Road, Agodi,” Osifeso said.
“A bank depositor traveling in a metallic grey Nissan Primera with license plate number EPE 901 PS was tracked and forcibly robbed of a substantial, yet-to-be-ascertained amount of cash.”
He disclosed that a police officer sustained serious injuries during an exchange with the robbers as patrol teams responded to the distress.
> “Initial investigations indicate that an officer with the Oyo State Police Command sustained severe injuries during a confrontation that arose when his team engaged the suspects in a bid to thwart their plans of causing further chaos,” Osifeso explained.
The injured officer, he added, is receiving urgent medical attention at a secure healthcare facility, while no deaths were reported.
Osifeso urged residents with relevant information about the culprits to assist law enforcement agencies.
> “Members of the public with useful information are encouraged to report to the nearest police station to aid the prompt apprehension of the suspects,” he appealed.
The command assured that efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest those responsible for the brazen daylight robbery.
