The intercepted drone
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have recovered a surveillance drone following a clash with suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in Borno State.
The encounter, Zagazola learnt, occurred at about 11:30 a.m. on December 30 in the Pridang general area of the Izge axis.
Sources said soldiers deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Izge were on a fighting patrol alongside volunteer forces when they ran into an unconfirmed number of terrorists believed to be on a reconnaissance mission.
According to the sources, the insurgents were suspected to be planning to deploy an ultra-light drone to monitor the movements and activities of troops as well as local residents in the area.
The troops reportedly engaged the terrorists with overwhelming firepower, forcing them to abandon the drone and flee in disarray, possibly with gunshot wounds.
The sources added that the soldiers later carried out a thorough exploitation of the area, during which they recovered one drone along with its complete accessories.
