Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man suspected to be a quack doctor for allegedly operating an illegal clinic in Ore, headquarters of Ore/Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Akure.
DSP Jimoh said the arrest formed part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal medical networks across Ondo State.
Jimoh disclosed that the suspect, identified as Idris Nasiru, was apprehended during an intelligence-driven operation carried out by the command’s Surveillance Team.
“A search of his shop led to the recovery of injection needles, medical drips, bandages and assorted medical kits,” Jimoh stated. “Further searches of his residence recovered used injection bottles, needles and syringes, following a duly signed search warrant,” he added.
According to the police spokesman, preliminary investigations revealed that Nasiru is not a registered medical practitioner, thereby confirming that the clinic was being operated unlawfully.
Jimoh further said the suspect has made useful statements while in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
He also noted that the Commissioner of Police has urged residents to continue providing credible information to support the fight against crime and criminality in the state.
The police advised members of the public to exercise caution when seeking medical services to avoid falling into the hands of quacks, while assuring residents that the command remains committed to eliminating medical-related crimes in all forms.
