Northern Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has expressed relief over the safe release of worshippers abducted during an attack on Kurmin Wali community in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Chairman of Northern CAN, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, in a statement commended Governor Uba Sani for what he described as decisive leadership and responsiveness during the period of the abduction.
Hayab said the return of the victims brought renewed hope to the affected families, the Church and the wider community, noting that the governor’s intervention demonstrated empathy and commitment to the protection of citizens.
“We rejoice with the Church and the people of Kurmin Wali over the safe return of all the kidnapped worshippers,” Hayab said. “Governor Uba Sani listened to the cries of the people and kept his promise to ensure that the abducted worshippers were released.”
He contrasted the governor’s approach with past experiences, where, according to him, victims and community members were often ignored or intimidated following similar incidents.
Northern CAN also praised the efforts of security agencies involved in the operation, including the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force and other security operatives, describing their role as critical to the successful release of the victims.
The association further acknowledged the support of the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; the Director-General of the DSS, Mr Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi; and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their oversight and commitment to national security.
Hayab urged security agencies to sustain the tempo of their operations to prevent a recurrence of such attacks, while calling on communities to remain vigilant and cooperate with security authorities by reporting suspicious activities.
“We pray that there will be no repeat of such tragic incidents in any of our communities,” he said, adding that Northern CAN would continue to work with government and security agencies to ensure the safety of churches and communities across the region.
The association said the release of the worshippers highlighted the importance of effective collaboration between government and security agencies in addressing insecurity and protecting lives.
