Residents of Takum and Donga Local Government Areas in Taraba State are gripped by fear following a viral video circulating on social media, warning of a looming coordinated attack by suspected militias in the coming days.
The warning was issued by Mr. Judd Saul, the Founder and Executive Director of Equipping the Persecuted (ETP), a United States-based humanitarian organisation.
In the video, Mr. Saul, alleged that heavily armed Fulani ethnic militias have been sighted advancing towards the River Donga axis, an area covering parts of Takum and Donga.
He claimed the movement signals preparations for possible attacks on nearby communities.
“The imminent attacks are possibly to be carried out on 23/3/2026 after Salah celebration, according to the video,” Saul stated, adding that New Gboko and Chanchanji in Takum—predominantly inhabited by Tiv Christian farmers—are among the communities reportedly at risk.
Saul, further, referenced a recent incident in Tor-Damsa, Donga LGA, where he said five people were killed in what he described as a coordinated militia assault.
He warned of broader threats extending beyond Taraba.
“We have critical informations of upcoming attacks in Taraba and southern Keduna, what I mean by imminent attacks is that Fulani ethnic militias have been gathered, they have preparing for major attacks in Taraba and in southern Keduna,” he said.
“We are expecting imminent attacks on Taraba around March 23rd, Fulani militia are mobilizing fighters and taking positions, they are armed movement are seen towards Donga River line embedded with Castles, they are working towards Chanchanji, Drones confirms Machine Guns present,” Saul said in the video.
Amid the growing anxiety, many residents—particularly in Chanchanji—have reportedly begun relocating to safer areas, fearing for their safety.
Responding to the development, the spokesperson of the Taraba State Police Command, Mr. Victor Msherize, assured the public that security agencies are fully prepared to handle any threat. “Already we have plans regarding any security threat, be rest assured that the police plans are on top gear,” Msherize stated.
