
Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a suspected member of a criminal gang linked to the fatal stabbing of a passerby at Kawo Flyover, as authorities intensify efforts to apprehend other fleeing suspects.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Kaduna
The incident according to him, occurred on March 28, 2026, at about 8:00 p.m., near Mamu Oil, a few metres from the Kawo Bridge in Kaduna, where the attackers reportedly assaulted the victim in a bid to rob him of his mobile phone.
According to the police, operatives permanently stationed under the bridge responded swiftly upon receiving distress calls and rushed to the scene to rescue the victim.
DSP Hassan said the injured man was immediately taken to the Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital for urgent medical attention.
However, despite efforts by medical personnel, the victim was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty shortly after arrival at the hospital.
Following the incident, a team of detectives launched an intensive investigation which led to the arrest of one Aminu Lawal, popularly known as “Aminu Yayyafi,” who has reportedly confessed to his involvement in the crime.
DSP Hassan revealed that efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest other members of the gang, with a view to ensuring they face prosecution in accordance with the law upon conclusion of investigations.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Rabiu Muhammad, has directed the Area Commander, the Divisional Police Officer, and other tactical units to intensify operations in the area and decisively hunt down the remaining suspects.
He urged residents to remain calm, assuring the public that the command is fully on top of the situation and committed to bringing all those involved to justice.
