Tottenham Hotspur survived relegation on the final day of the English Premier League (EPL) season with a 1–0 win over Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
João Palhinha got the only goal in the 43rd minute, reacting first after his header came back off the post and turning in the rebound just before half-time.
It was the kind of game Spurs had to win, but never really looked comfortable in. They had most of the ball, yet it didn’t feel like control for long spells.
Tottenham ended with 57 per cent possession and 20 shots to Everton’s 10, but most of those attempts came without real cutting edge.
Everton were organised, stayed compact, and did a good job of slowing Spurs down. The visitors didn’t need to do anything special to make it a difficult afternoon.
After the goal, Spurs didn’t push on much. The second half was more about protecting what they had than going for a second.
Everton tried to make something happen late on and put Tottenham under pressure in the closing stages, but the hosts held on through stoppage time.
It wasn’t pretty, but it was enough. Spurs stay in the Premier League after a season that kept dragging them towards trouble right up to the final day.
