Ambassador Yerima Shettima
A Senatorial Aspirant for Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Ambassador Yerima Shettima, has reaffirmed his determination to contest the 2027 Senate election, dismissing rumours of an “anointed candidate” as sponsored and malicious.
Speaking at a press conference held at his office in Kaduna, Shettima, who is also the convener of the Northern Stakeholders Consultative Initiative (NSCI), stressed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) must uphold internal democracy by providing a level playing field for all aspirants.
He expressed confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, to ensure a transparent and credible process, urging party leaders and stakeholders not to take actions capable of undermining democracy or eroding public trust in the party.
The aspirant called for the conduct of free and fair primaries, insisting that party stakeholders should be allowed to freely choose candidates with the capacity to deliver effective representation.
Shettima also emphasised the need for strict adherence to the rule of law and respect for the will of the people, noting that democracy must be allowed to thrive within the party.
While expressing optimism about the APC’s chances in the forthcoming elections, he stressed that victory would depend on doing the right thing and maintaining internal cohesion.
He further urged his supporters to remain calm and focused in the face of unsubstantiated rumours, assuring them that he remains firmly in the race.
According to him, his aspiration is driven by a desire to provide quality representation and advance the interests of the people of Kaduna Central.
Shettima added that in the event the party opts for a consensus arrangement, all aspirants must be duly consulted and carried along in the decision-making process.
He pledged to abide by the outcome of the primaries, provided they are conducted in line with due process and the constitution of the party, reaffirming his loyalty and commitment to the APC.
The aspirant also called on party members and the general public to continue supporting President Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani in their efforts to deliver good governance.
