The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has postponed its presidential and governorship screening exercise earlier scheduled to hold this weekend, shifting the exercise to Monday, May 18, 2026.
The party disclosed this in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, who said the adjustment became necessary as part of internal arrangements by the party.
According to the statement, the postponement affects all presidential and governorship aspirants seeking to contest under the platform of the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“The African Democratic Congress (ADC) wishes to inform all presidential and governorship aspirants that the party’s screening exercise earlier scheduled for this weekend has been postponed to Monday, 18th May 2026,” the statement read.
The party also announced changes to the screening venue for some federal lawmakers aspirants from Northern Nigeria due to the prevailing security challenges in parts of the region.
“Furthermore, due to the security situation affecting some parts of Northern Nigeria, the screening of affected federal lawmakers aspirants will now take place in Abuja,” Abdullahi stated.
The ADC assured aspirants that fresh details regarding the revised arrangements would be communicated directly to all concerned participants.
“All affected aspirants will be duly contacted with the updated schedules and necessary details,” the statement added.
While expressing regret over the inconvenience caused by the sudden adjustment, the opposition party appealed for understanding from aspirants and stakeholders involved in the exercise.
“We regret any inconvenience this adjustment may cause and appreciate the understanding and cooperation of all aspirants and stakeholders,” the statement concluded.
