Funeral service for the slain teacher
The remains of Adesiyan Adegboye, the teacher killed during last Friday’s deadly bandit attack in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, have been laid to rest in Ogbomoso.
Adegboye, 49, was honoured by family members, colleagues and sympathisers during a funeral service held at Ayegun Baptist Church before his burial at his residence in the Owolake area of the town.
The late teacher was among those murdered when armed bandits invaded Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School and L.A. Primary School, Esiele, abducting several teachers and students in the process.
The attacks triggered fear across Ogbomoso and nearby communities, forcing many anxious parents to withdraw their children from schools over safety concerns.
Some schools also shut down temporarily after rumours circulated that bandits had entered Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, although the institution later dismissed the claim as false.
In response to the growing tension, the Oyo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology announced fresh security measures affecting schools across the state.
In a circular signed by the Permanent Secretary, B.T. Oyinloye, the ministry directed all school administrators to halt activities that require students to leave school premises.
The circular stated: “In view of the recent security concerns, the Ministry is taking steps to safeguard the lives of students and members of staff in all schools in Oyo State.”
It added: “All School Administrators are hereby directed to suspend all excursions, field trips, sports competitions, and any other activities that require moving students outside school premises until further notice.”
The ministry further warned that all previous approvals for such activities had been cancelled, while schools were advised to report suspicious movements around their premises to security agencies immediately.
