Senator representing Taraba North Senatorial District, Shaibu Isa Lau, has emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 senatorial election.
Lau secured victory at the party’s primary election conducted across the six local government areas that make up Taraba North Senatorial District.
Announcing the results in Jalingo, the returning officer for the exercise, Dahilu Bako, said Lau polled 44,533 votes to defeat his closest rival, Kabiru Bello Badaweira, who garnered 11,634 votes.
According to Bako, Lau satisfied all the requirements of the APC primary guidelines and emerged with the highest number of valid votes cast.
Lau, who was first elected into the Senate in 2025, officially assumed office on July 5, 2027, following a Supreme Court judgment that declared him the rightful winner of the Taraba North senatorial election.
Reacting to his victory, the senator expressed appreciation to APC members across the northern senatorial district for renewing their confidence in his leadership.
He called on party supporters in Taraba State to unite and mobilise support for Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Agbu Kefas, himself, and other APC candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The outcome of the primary election is expected to calm tensions within the district, following earlier speculations and concerns over alleged irregularities in the voting process.
