The arrested suspect
Troops of the Sector 2 Mobile Intervention Battalion (MIB), working alongside local hunters, have arrested a suspected informant for Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in Damaturu Local Government Area of Yobe State.
Security sources according to a report by a security expert, ZagaZola Makama, disclosed that the suspect, identified as 42-year-old Alhaji Ibrahim, was apprehended on May 25 at about 3:05 p.m. following credible intelligence linking him to alleged communication and collaboration with terrorist elements operating in the area.
According to the sources, Ibrahim served as a vigilante member attached to Government Girls Unity College (GGUC) in Damaturu.
The suspect is said to be from Ahajiri village in Maisandari Ward of Damaturu Local Government Area.
Military sources revealed that preliminary findings suggested the suspect had been providing information to insurgents, thereby exposing residents and security personnel to potential attacks.
“One of the biggest dangers in conflict areas is betrayal from within. Individuals who secretly work with terrorists put innocent lives and the entire community at risk,” one of the sources said.
The suspect is currently being held in the custody of Sector 2 authorities while investigations continue.
