Marc-Andre ter Stegen is set to bring the curtain down on a memorable nine-year spell at Barcelona after agreeing a season-long loan move to Ajax.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Friday that the deal has been completed, with the German goalkeeper scheduled to travel to Amsterdam today before undergoing his medical and signing his contract.
An official announcement from Ajax is expected once the final paperwork is completed.
Barcelona have given the green light for the move and will continue to shoulder the bulk of Ter Stegen’s wages, with Ajax paying only a small portion of his salary under the loan agreement reached weeks ago.
The move marks the end of an era for one of Barcelona’s most decorated players. Since arriving from Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2014, Ter Stegen has won multiple major honours, including the UEFA Champions League, several La Liga titles and domestic cups, establishing himself as one of the club’s finest goalkeepers of the modern era.
Ajax, meanwhile, secure a proven leader and vastly experienced shot-stopper as they strengthen their squad ahead of the new season, while Ter Stegen gets the opportunity for a fresh start and regular first-team football.
Official confirmation from both clubs is expected after the completion of his medical and the signing of the deal.
