
Federal Republic of Nigeria on Saturday joined the Government and good people of the Republic of Benin to commemorate the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary, reaffirming the long standing bonds of friendship, regional cooperation and shared commitment to peace and security between the two neighbouring nations.
Assistant Director Army Public Relations, Headquarters 9 Brigade, Major Akinola Ajibola, said in a statement on Monday that the colourful celebration, held at the iconic Amazone in Cotonou, featured an impressive display of military professionalism and cultural pride.
Major Ajibola said the Nigerian contingent, invited by the government and people of the Republic of Benin, delivered one of the most captivating performances of the event.
He said the Nigerian contingent, led by the Commander 9 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ayokunle Olufemi Owolabi, thrilled dignitaries and spectators with a flawless march past executed in both slow and quick time.

He said: “Displaying exceptional discipline, impeccable coordinations, and military precision, the contingent earned loud applause from his excellency, the President of Benin, Mr Romuald Wadagni and the audience.
“The highlight of Nigeria’s participation was the breathtaking silent drill display by the Nigerian Army.
“The spectacular performance showcased extraordinary dexterity, synchronization and mastery of arms handling, leaving the audience visibly mesmerised and drawing sustained ovation from distinguished guests and thousands of spectators gathered for the national celebration.
“Nigeria’s participation underscored the enduring cordial relationship between both countries and reflected the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to fostering military diplomacy, strengthening regional partnerships and promoting peace, stability and cooperation across West Africa.
“The outstanding performance by the Nigerian contingent not only projected the professionalism and operational excellence of the Nigerian Army but also reinforced the deep historical and cultural ties that continue to unite Nigeria and the Republic of Benin.
“Nigeria’s participation in the Republic of Benin’s Independence Anniversary celebration aptly reflected this enduring spirit of friendship, mutual respect and regional solidarity.
Also in attendance was her excellency Mopelola Adeola-Ibrahim, the Ambassador of Nigeria to the Republic of Benin, the Nigerian Defence Attaché to the Republic of Benin, Colonel SA Yahaya, alongside other senior military officers, government officials, members of the diplomatic corps and representatives of friendly nations who witnessed the historic occasion.
