ARMSTRONG BAKAM, Bauchi-
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bauchi State Chapter, has expressed concern over youths’ unemployment, pointing out that it is responsible for many crimes in the society.
The newly elected CAN Chairman, Rev. Abraham Damina, who expressed the concern when he led other executives and church leaders to pay a courtesy visit on the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, at the Government House on Tuesday.
Rev. Damina, urged Gov. Mohammed to urgently create employment opportunities for the youths, in order to address the menace.
He said: “We want to request that youths should be empowered because they are just littered about causing confusion in homes and on the streets. When they are empowered, it will help in curtailing some of the vices in the society.”
The cleric, however, commended the governor for the mass appointments of Christians in his cabinet and the construction and renovation of churches across the state.
“We wish to express our deepest appreciation to you for what had never happened in Bauchi State, since its inception, but it happened in your time. That is the mass appointment of our Christian brethren into your administration.
“The renovation and building of churches in the state, that gesture will never be forgotten by the Christian community. It will go down the history of the Church in Bauchi state,” he stated.
Rev. Damina called on all the Christian appointees in the cabinet to be faithful in discharging their duty of ambassadorship and showing the light of supporting the governor’s administration.
In his response, Governor Mohammed, said that his administration was ensuring that there is justice and equity among the people who brought him into power.
He said: “Some of the things that we have started doing is to ensure that there is justice and equity and it will not reduce me to the level of my faith, if, as a leader, I become equitable and justifiable in what I am doing”.
“We are also building a lot of mosques and schools. We must give the percentage that must be allocated to you (Christians) because you are also citizens of Bauchi”.
“That is the only way that peace can be established and on that token, I also appreciate some of the Ulamas that I have contacted unknown to you. They said why not, we have never told your predecessors not to be just and equitable to our Christians brothers”.
“They are also, entitled to any percent of what they deserve in the resources of Bauchi, so that, we will show that, at least, they are one of us.” He said.
