In a statement issued through his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, Governor Umaru-Bago described Babangida as a distinguished patriot and an iconic figure whose lifelong dedication to Nigeria remains exemplary.
“Babangida has demonstrated bravery and patriotism in ensuring the unity, stability, and progress of Nigeria during and after his active service,” the governor remarked.
Highlighting Babangida’s commitment to education and historical preservation, Umaru-Bago praised the establishment of the IBB Presidential Library, named in honor of Babangida’s late wife, Dr. Maryam Babangida.

The governor emphasized Babangida’s transformative impact during his tenure as Head of State from 1985 to 1993, stating that his policies and programs have left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s political and economic landscape.
“He has become a beacon of hope and a role model to many generations, and posterity will continue to be kind to him,” Umaru-Bago affirmed.
