Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has congratulated elder statesman and former Minister of Defence, Lt. Gen. Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (rtd), on his 87th birthday, describing his life of service as a beacon that continues to illuminate Nigeria’s path to progress.
In a congratulatory letter signed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, the university praised Gen. Danjuma—also a former Chief of Army Staff—for his exceptional contributions to nation-building, philanthropy, and human development.
Prof Ahmed said Gen. Danjuma’s journey, defined by courage, patriotism and unwavering commitment to national unity, had remained an enduring inspiration to generations of Nigerians.
“Through your distinguished military service, principled leadership and impactful philanthropy, you have touched lives and communities in immeasurable ways,” the letter reads.
“Your commitment to justice, human development and educational advancement places you among the rare individuals whose legacy transcends generations.”
The Vice-Chancellor noted that ABU, which had previously honoured Gen. Danjuma with an Honorary Award, takes pride in celebrating him as one of its most respected institutional icons.
He added that the elder statesman’s values mirror the university’s core ideals of integrity, excellence, resilience, and service to humanity.
“To our students, you represent a model of purposeful leadership; to our staff, you embody the spirit of national contribution; and to the university management, you remain a cherished part of our history,” Prof Ahmed said.
He prayed for God’s continued blessings upon Gen. Danjuma, wishing him good health, peace, renewed strength, and many more years of fulfilment.
