Nigerian military, under the leadership of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen. Christopher Musa, has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to safeguarding Nigeria and the African continent from evolving security challenges.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, ahead of the inaugural African Chiefs of Defence Staff Summit set for August 25–27, Gen. Musa emphasized a resolute stance: “We will do everything necessary to ensure the security of Nigeria and Africa as a whole.”
The summit, themed _“Addressing Modern Threats to Peace and Security in Africa,”_ aims to foster collaboration among African nations.
Gen. Musa highlighted Nigeria’s longstanding dedication to protecting its sovereignty, supporting neighboring countries, and contributing to continental peace initiatives.
“Nigeria has consistently shown its readiness to defend its borders and promote stability across Africa,” he stated.
With over 90% of the 54 invited African nations confirming participation, the summit reflects a collective acknowledgment of shared challenges.
“This high attendance underscores our common resolve to confront threats together,” Musa noted.
The summit’s objectives include enhancing rapid crisis response, establishing joint training programs, improving intelligence sharing, and crafting a unified strategy to tackle Africa’s security issues.
Gen. Musa stressed that solidarity and mutual respect are vital for Africa’s security and prosperity.
“A secure Africa paves the way for economic growth and development,” he said, adding, “We must unite as a family and act decisively before it’s too late. Our collective determination is our greatest strength.”
He also praised President Bola Tinubu for his steadfast support in bolstering Nigeria’s security framework and promoting regional stability. According to Musa, the summit offers a critical platform to build enduring partnerships and pool resources, ensuring Africa is well-equipped to handle future crises effectively.
