Another top aide of Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, Prince Chris Abasi Eyo has resigned from his position as Special Adviser on Media and Publicity.
Prince Eyo, who was a one-time commissioner for Information in the state and the spokesperson for Umo Eno Governorship Campaign Organisation, announced his resignation in a letter, attributing it to his inability to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC ).
He said as a founding member of the PDP, he could not abandon the party he helped to build.
The governor had directed members of the state executive council to defect with him or resign ahead of his defection on June 7.
In a letter addressed to the Governor dated June 16, 2025, Prince Eyo said he had decided to become “a jetsam of the very ship he had co- built.”
“It was a rare privilege to serve in that capacity as we traversed the length and breadth of our dear State, championing the noble ideals of the ARISE Agenda,” he wrote.
“While the decision is clearly strategic, it is bound to leave in its wake, a trail of political jetsams and flotsams. Therefore… I have chosen to become a jetsam of the very ship I co-built,” he wrote.
Describing his choice as one guided by principle and political conviction, Eyo emphasized his commitment to the PDP, asserting that “all politics is local.”
Eyo’s resignation brings to two, the number of high profile officials, whom have thrown in the towel in the wake of the governor’s decision to dump the PDP.
The first to have resigned was Comrade Ini Ememobong, who was the Commissioner for Special Duties and the Ibom Deep Seaport.
