Amotekun operatives
In a decisive crackdown on crime, the Ondo State Security Network Agency—better known as Amotekun Corps—has rounded up 51 alleged offenders across all 18 local government areas, spotlighting the recapture of a notorious escapee from the Okitipupa Correctional Centre.
Announcing the haul during a press briefing in Akure on Thursday, Amotekun’s State Commander, Mr. Adetunji Adeleye, revealed the escaped convict was swiftly nabbed after allegedly diving back into criminal waters.
“The convict, who escaped from the correctional facility, committed another crime where Amotekun operatives apprehended him,” Adeleye explained to reporters, underscoring the agency’s relentless pursuit.
The arrests spanned a grim spectrum of offenses: 37 individuals for public disturbances and breaches of peace, six for kidnapping, and one for sexual assault.
Adeleye detailed the next steps, stating, “Across the board, these 51 suspects have gone through various stages of interrogation, and about 35 of them will be going to court of competent jurisdiction today.”
He added that the remaining cases would first undergo internal mediation, with unresolved matters escalating to formal prosecution.
A standout victory came in dismantling a ruthless kidnapping ring, including the seizure of their key weapons supplier.
“We were also able to dismantle a terrible kidnap syndicate and arrested one of their armourers who has confessed to five major kidnap operations within the state,” the commander disclosed, highlighting the operation’s impact on curbing organized threats.
Adeleye’s remarks emphasized Amotekun’s broader mission amid Ondo’s push for economic stability.
“Our watchword is to ensure that Ondo State remains safe for investors to thrive and work, even our forests,” he affirmed.
“We are also striving to ensure that the state remains safe for farmers to farm to avoid food insecurity.”
Wrapping up with a firm commitment, he pledged, “I want to reassure residents that Amotekun Corps will continue to strive to greater heights at ensuring safety of lives and property in Ondo State.”
